Haines, AK

We spent the daylight hours at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, just outside of Haines. The Chilkat River says unfrozen for longer than the others in the area and there is a late salmon run, drawing in hundreds of bald eagles.

We literally saw hundreds of bald eagles at once. It was amazing! We managed to stay pretty warm for hours outside, which was nice as well.

For lunch we headed farther out to 33 mile for some burgers. We thought about heading into Canada, but we decided the road was too snowy/icy for us to make it up and back before sunset (around 3:30).

We headed back to the preserve until light got too low for decent pictures. We picked up some pizza in town and headed back for a quiet night up at the B & B. (sorting out the 2770 pictures I took during the day)
