Barcelona, Spain

We arrived in Barcelona! We got here at 9:40 am local time (after leaving Miami at 7pm the evening before), took our bags to the hotel, and headed out. We got some lunch at a local cafe (by the time we got through the airport and customs and got into town it was basically lunchtime). We’re staying near Plaza Catalunya and La Rambla.

We walked over to the Barcelona Cathedral so that the girls could see a standard European cathedral as we plan on going to the modern, Gothic Sagrada Familia tomorrow. We went through the cathedral and cloisters. There are some Roman ruins there as well. We went walking down La Rambla, which is a major street with a large walking path in the middle where there are small stores, kiosks, and restaurant seating. There were a ton of people out! We went down to an open market area called Mercat St Josep. It was packed with produce, meat, pastry, and candy merchants. Most everything was beautifully displayed.

Once our rooms were ready we took a nap break at the hotel. We had dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant (I know, we’re in Spain…we were tired and needed somewhere close by. It was good food.) We walked around more and saw an area with Roman sepulchers. We headed out to Plaza Catalunya as well where there are statues and fountains.
