Last day!
Stockholm, Sweden |
Stockholm, Sweden
It was a gorgeous day today in Stockholm—the sun was out and there were white fluffy clouds in the sky!
We started our day at the Vasa Museum. This houses an over 200 ft long ship from 1628 called the Vasa. It sank on its maiden voyage—apparently it was quite top-heavy— and was raised in 1961. It is in practically pristine condition and they have quite a few artifacts from the ship. The museum is set up so that you can see the ship from different heights and can easily see the intricately carved wood.
We took a water taxi to get to and from the museum, which gave us a chance to see a lot more of Stockholm than we could do walking. The city is beautiful with lots of large stone buildings along the waterway. They have a small amusement park along the water as well. It looked like it had a couple of decent roller coasters.
We had lunch in a cafe in Gamla Stan, the old town area of Stockholm. We took our time strolling through the narrow streets and looking at shops. From there we walked to the City Hall. This is where the Nobel Prize Award banquet is held every year. This large brick building is right on the water and has a central courtyard.
Stockholm is the last port on our trip. This has been a very nice cruise—despite the mostly cloudy and drizzly weather—and we have quite a few places we’d like to go back to explore more.
