Things around water
San Francisco, CA |
San Francisco, CA
Today was all about the Golden Gate Bridge and critters found in and around the water.
We started our morning going to the bridge itself on the San Francisco Peninsula side. We drove to the base of the bridge and also walked out on a pier where we got a more direct-on view and spent some time with seagulls and a very loud sea lion. The weather was working in our favor with beautiful sunshine and blue skies!
We then went across the bridge to the Marin Headlands. We drove through the park and walked out to the Point Bonita Lighthouse peninsula. Near there we found a cluster of harbor seals sunning themselves on rock outcroppings. There are a number of retired military forts nearby, so we checked them out as well.
From there we went back across the bridge and headed south down the coast to catch the Pacific Coast Highway. Just south of San Francisco it became quite overcast for the remainder of our day. We made various scenic stops along the way and eventually made it down to Pacific Grove, where we are staying the next 2 nights. We are in a condo right on the water of the Monterey Bay and took some time to walk along some of the seaside trails. We ate at a beachside restaurant and watched a momma sea otter hunting for crabs while her baby slept…floating.
