Yokohama, Japan

We survived our 12 hour flight from Dallas to Tokyo. Long flights are really wearing. It’s disappointing to watch 2 full length movies, a TV show episode, and take a nap and *still* have 6.5 hours left.

It took 2 different train lines with 2 different payment systems to get from the airport to Yokohama. The trains were nice, but the ticket kiosks for the 2nd line were solely in Japanese which made purchasing the right ticket for the right line challenging, to say the least. A local took pity on us and showed Paul the ropes…I think we’ll be good next time.

Our hotel for tonight is near the cruise ship pier. We are also right by the local Chinatown so we went walking through to check it out. We had thoughts of getting dinner there but nothing was in English and even the picture menus were difficult to decipher (is that chicken?). We checked out the Japanese restaurant in our hotel, but it was going to be nearly $100/person. Never mind. We did pass by the McDonalds and 7-11 as lame dinner options, but I have to admit that our first meal in Japan was Italian food because it was close by, had an English menu available (big plus!), and we were too tired to look further.

Tomorrow we hope to make it to a Japanese garden before getting on the ship. Before then I hope to sleep somewhere around 12 hours.
