Capri, Italy

This morning we left Rome and headed towards Capri, where we are spending most of this trip. We took a high speed train to Naples. Thing was going 186 mph at one point! We then took put our lives in a taxi driver’s hands to get us from the train station to the port where we could catch a ferry to Capri. Seriously, Naples has the craziest driving I have seen in a modern city! Somehow, we (and all of the insane motorcycle drivers) made it to our destination in one piece. We made it on to the ferry within a couple of minutes of it leaving (there were plenty more…we just happened to make it on this one at the last minute) and we were truly off to Capri.

Capri is a small mountainous island south of Naples off of the Amalfi coast. It is very pretty and you have to go uphill to get to almost everything here. The ferries come in to the Marina Grande which faces the coastline. We are staying at Marina Piccola which is on the opposite side of the island. We face the farglioni, a famous rock formation just off the island.

We were all settled around lunchtime and set off to walk around Capri. We have been here once before, but just for part of a day. We had lunch right on the water at the Marina Piccola. After that we walked around the town of Capri, walked part of the tragara-faraglioni path, peeked in at the Certosa di San Giacomo (monastery), and tried to go the the Via Krupp, which is closed for some reason. We went up to the main piazzetta and had a local frozen lemonade called granita. We basically took it all at a leisurely pace and enjoyed ourselves. Dinner was at our hotel restaurant.
