weaving and farming
Tân Châu, Vietnam

Tân Châu, Vietnam

This morning we went to a small village near Tan Chau. Most of the residents are produce farmers but there is also a rattan factory there. We walked through much of the village, getting a chance to see how they live. A number of the kids followed us around, and our guide gave them pens and pencils for school, along with some candies. We saw many (mostly women) working in the fields. For some reason I find it fun to see so many of them in the traditional conical hats. Nearly everyone we saw had smiles on their faces. The rattan factory was interesting. The women working there have to have the patterns (some of them looked to be about a 60 row repeat) memorized. Quite interesting.

The rest of today we are cruising the Mekong and relaxing.
