Today we docked at Breisach in Germany. Directly across the river was France. Breisach was, like much of Germany, heavily damaged in WWII. This included the St. Stephansmunster Cathedral, which has been refurbished to its original state.
We did not, however spend the day in Breisach or even in Germany. We took a bus ride to Requewihr, France.

We headed out to spend the morning in Requewihr, France. This is a town that survived WWII mostly intact and has many buildings from 400 years ago. It is officially considered one of the most beautiful villages in France, and definitely has earned that.

The main street
It is an extremely quaint town that historically has been a wine producing and trading town. The streets are narrow and the buildings are colorful. We had a really good time walking around, taking pictures, buying pastries (they are known for macaroons and macarons), and eating a crepe. There are many half-timbered houses and even portions of the city gate and wall. It seemed like Disney made a French village. Turns out that is reversed…Disney used this town as a model for the animated “Beauty and the Beast.”

So quaint!

Narrow side street
The pictures say it all…enjoy! We would definitely recommend coming to see it for yourself!
In the afternoon we sailed to Basil, Switzerland. This is the last night we spend on the boat.

A stork’s nest. They’re huge! They’re the “official” bird of Alsace
