Last day in Yellowstone

We enjoyed our stay at the Under Canvas camp outside Yellowstone. If you have the chance and can afford it, it’s worth a stay at one of these.

This morning we went to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. This facility rescues nuisance bears who would otherwise have to be euthanized. They have other rescue/rehab wildlife that are unable to be released for various reasons. They have joint programs with the US Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife Service. Ironically, I did not get any decent pictures of the bears.

They also do testing of “bear proof” containers for companies. These are some that the resident bears have tested.

Went back into Yellowstone for a bit.

Sorry, didn’t write the name of this one down.

Made it to the continental divide.

Isa Lake: this lake straddles the continental divide and is one of the few natural lakes that drains into two oceans. The east side is drained by the Lewis River into the Pacific Ocean and the west side is drained by the Firehole River into the Gulf of Mexico. Seems backwards, doesn’t it?
We noticed a bunch of cars stopped on the side of the road, so we pulled off, too. We found this guy hanging out in the grass.
We crossed the continental divide again at a different point and elevation.

We left Yellowstone and made it back into the Grand Tetons.

Snake River

We then headed back to Jackson Hole, which is where we will be staying the for the rest of our trip.
