Nairobi National Park

Today we visited Nairobi National Park. This is a national park at the south end of Nairobi which is fenced on 3 sides, allowing the animals to roam free on the side facing away from the city. The park is unusual in that it is adjacent to a major city, but it still has significant wildlife and is considered one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries. This was the first national park established in Kenya when it was opened in 1946 and it covers 45 sq miles. It contains a wide variety of animals and birds, including 4 of the the “Big Five” (lions, water buffalo, rhinos, and leopards…only missing elephants).

This is a nice place to have a mini-safari for a half day. Here is a sampling of what we saw today.
