Today we were in the town of Lamego. It was here that Portugal’s first king, Alfonso I, was declared king by nobles in 1139.
We spent most of our visit there at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies. The current building was constructed in 1750, but a chapel has been present on this site since 1361.

The church sits on top of a huge staircase, which we elected not to climb. I was unable to get a picture as they were setting up for a festival which blocked where I needed to be to take it.

Tiling on the wall of the sanctuary.

It is surrounded by a wooded park.

This is a dead chestnut tree that other smaller trees grew out of. The locals apparently refer to it as the broccoli tree.
We also went into the Lamego Cathedral.

This cathedral was established in 1129.
