Klaserie and Sabi Sands, South Africa

We had yet another cloudy morning start.

Before we left we knew there was a hyena at our camp water hole, so we headed there first.

It posed nicely for us before running off.

This old male warthog had huge tusks.

Zebra family

Giraffe snacking on the trees.

We heard that a rhino had been spotted nearby, so we headed off to see if we could find it.

Instead we managed to find a nervous elephant family who ran away.

This hornbill puffed up its feathers to stay warm.

We did see some baboons with some banded mongoose off in the distance.

A honey badger ran by before I could get a picture, which is a bummer because you don’t see them often.

Lizard hawk

Red-crested korhaan males have a mating ritual where they fly up and then do a partial free fall to impress the ladies, hence their nickname of suicide bird.

Female kudu

We had wildebeest and zebra at the watering hole before we left.

We headed next to the Sabi Sands game reserve, making it in time for the afternoon drive.

We went out in search of a leopard who had made a morning kill, but initially found quite a few elephants.

This guy was playing in the water.

This buffalo in water was resting in a pond. Seems relaxing, minus the flies.

The oxpecker is having a feast.

This is a coalition of male lions who have taken in their sister, who left her pride.

She is a little relaxed.

We came upon another family of elephants.

Our guide said this is 1-2 month old elephant.

Finally, after dark we found the leopard who had made the morning kill. Unfortunately, a hyena had gotten the kill from her.
