Transit to Cuiabá

Today was another transit day.

We started the morning just over the border in Argentina near Iguazu Falls, went through border control in Argentina, then border control in Brazil, flew to São Paulo, and then flew to Cuiabá.

The Iguazu River as we were leaving.

Landing in São Paulo.

This process took the entire day, so we did not do anything fun, touristy, involving animals, waterfalls, or history.

A little about this city, though.
Cuiabá is the capital city of the state of Mato Grosso and is near the center of South America. Gold was found in the area in 1719 initiating a gold rush. The city was founded a few years into this, but remained largely isolated until the 20th century. It is now has a population of about 650k people. It is known for being the gateway to Pantanal, the wetland ecosystem, along with cuisine and music.

In 1909 it was identified as the exact center of the South American continent, but more modern measurements have shown it to be about 28 miles northeast of Cuiabá. The city still has the 1909 obelisk marking the center spot in town.
