A little more London

Today was the day to get on the ship! We were left with a little time in the morning in London so we went to Westminster Abbey.

Westminister Abbey

The original abbey was constructed beginning in 1245 by King Henry III on the site of a prior abbey known as St Peter’s. Kings have been coronated here since 1066 and many royalty have been both married and buried here. This is yet another place that would not allow photography. I managed a few pictures, but they had a lot of babysitters watching, so I couldn’t sneak very much.

After the abbey, we hired a driver to take us to Southampton to get on the ship. It turns out that this weekend in Britain is a holiday similar to Memorial Day at home…a weekend to commemorate WWII veterans, or maybe those that died in the war. Anyways, it’s a holiday weekend just like it is at home and the traffic was awful!! The drive took much longer than planned. Fortunately, we had lots of extra time worked in.

So now we are settled on the boat, unpacked in the cabin, all mustered-stationed out, and well fed.
