Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov view from the castle

I have wanted to go to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic for a while so today that’s where we went.

walking into the old town

The castle has this multi level bridge called the Cloak Bridge. This goes over the moat. Most of the upper portions were built in the 1700s

Cesky Krumlov is a town in the south part of the Czech Republic that has an old town which dates from the 14-17th centuries. It managed to avoid most of the conflicts of those centuries, so is largely intact, although it did fall into disrepair and had to be restored after the fall of communism.

Along the river

The castle was originally built in 1240. It overlooks the old town which sits within a horseshoe ben in the Vltava river. It is an amazingly quaint town with hilly cobblestone streets. The castle moat has held European brown bears since the 16th century. Sadly, only one remains now (sad because she is alone in captivity, not sad because there is only one). There were many people rafting and kayaking down the Vltava river and sitting on its banks.

I really don’t have much more to say. The pictures say it all.
